Dr. Robert Cerfolio earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He completed his general surgery residency and his thoracic surgery fellowship at Mayo School of Medicine in Rochester. He currently practices as a thoracic surgeon at New York University Langone Hospital. He is specialized in treating asbestos-related diseases, including lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Dr. Cerfolio serves as the Executive Vice President and Vice Dean, Chief of Hospital Operations at NYU. He leads an experienced multidisciplinary team qualified to treat pleural mesothelioma and thoracic malignancies.

Dr. Robert Cerfolio’s expertise in robotic surgery, a less invasive surgical technique that creates smaller incisions, enables him to provide his patients with shorter recovery times. He also developed what has become known as the four-arm robotic approach to treat small cell and non-small cell lung cancers. Dr. Cerfolio uses this expertise in minimally invasive robotic thoracic surgery to provide the best care possible to his patients with lung cancer, mesothelioma, and other asbestos-related diseases.
