Dr. Dao Nguyen

Thoracic Surgeon , Professor of Surgery; Chief, Thoracic Surgery Section

Dr. Dao Nguyen, M.D., first joined up with the thoracic surgery team from the University of Miami. After working 10 years with the National Institute of Health, Dr. Nguyen finally joined the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Nevertheless, surgery has only been one small part of his work, and he has done a great deal of other work as well. Dr. Nguyen spent much time working in the laboratory where he headed the research team.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Dao Nguyen earned his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He completed his general surgery residency at McGill University and his cardiovascular/thoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Texas.

He currently practices as a thoracic surgeon at the University of Miami. He is specialized in treating lung cancer, pleural cancer, and mediastinal cancer and in performing minimally invasive thoracic surgery. Dr. Nguyen has a special interest in multimodality therapy for the treatment of advanced thoracic malignancies.

Research and Work to Rectify Health Disparities

Dr. Nguyen has investigated molecular therapy for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma, a disease that occurs due to exposure to asbestos. He has also teamed up with a group of researchers who publish studies on racial and socioeconomic disparities that exist in the treatment of lung cancer. Dr. Nguyen remains committed to advancing the treatment of mesothelioma, lung cancer, and other asbestos-related diseases, and ultimately hopes to find a cure for them.
