Dr. Richard Berri serves as the Director of the Surgical Oncology and Peritoneal Malignancies Program at the Van Elslander Cancer Center at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. He also leads the HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) program for St. John Providence Health.
Dr. Berri provides his patients with multidisciplinary care in the treatment of peritoneal malignancies like peritoneal mesothelioma. He works with a team of specialists, including pathologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists in addition to surgical oncologists, to provide his patients with the best care.

A Leading HIPEC Program
Dr. Berri’s HIPEC program offers his patients cytoreductive surgery in addition to HIPEC. Cytoreductive surgery is first performed to eliminate all visible tumors from the peritoneum, the lining of the abdominal cavity. Then, HIPEC is performed, bathing the abdominal organs in chemotherapy to kill any remaining cancer cells.
