Background

Dr. David Mason earned his medical degree from Columbia University. He completed his general surgery residency and his thoracic surgery fellowship at Harvard’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Mason also completed a vascular surgery research fellowship at the University Of Washington. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, continuing to advance research in all areas of thoracic surgery.

Dr. David Mason practices as a thoracic surgeon at Baylor Scott & White Health, where he also serves as Chief of Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation. Some of his special areas of interest include pioneering minimally invasive surgical techniques and the surgical treatment of lung cancer and esophageal cancer. Dr. Mason also treats malignant pleural mesothelioma and its complications, such as pleural effusions.

Dr. Mason prefers minimally invasive surgery, such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, over open chest surgery because it has fewer risks, is less painful, and has a shorter recovery period.
