Dr. Gregory P. Kalemkerian

Dr. Gregory P Kalemkerian, M.D., has dedicated a good portion of his career to researching treatment for mesothelioma and lung cancer. Throughout the course of Dr. Kalemkerian's career as a medical oncologist, he has become an unparalleled resource for patients. Back in 2002, Dr. Kalemkerian coordinated with physicians who came from 18 different cancer centers.

Background

Dr. Gregory Kalemkerian earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University and his oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Kalemkerian currently practices as a medical oncologist at the University of Michigan, where he also serves as Professor of Oncology. His special area of interest is thoracic oncology, including asbestos-related thoracic malignancies such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Leadership, Teaching, and Specialization in Thoracic Cancers

Dr. Kalemkerian also serves as Associate Division Chief for Faculty Development and Education, the Associate Director of the hematology/oncology fellowship program, and the Disease Group Lead for the Upper Aerodigestive Cancer Team at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center. Additionally, he holds the position of Chair of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network for the Small Cell Lung Cancer Guideline Panel.

In these positions, Dr. Kalemkerian has learned the value of providing his patients with multidisciplinary care. This multidisciplinary approach consists of working with a team of specialists, including pathologists, surgical oncologists, and radiation oncologists, in addition to medical oncologists, to provide patients with the best care.

Publishing and Research

Dr. Kalemkerian has served on many editorial boards and grant review sections. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, commentaries, reviews, and book chapters, in addition to editing two books on lung cancer.
