Education and Expertise
Dr. James Donahue earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
He currently practices at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, where he also serves as Associate Professor of Surgery and Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery. He is specialized in treating thoracic disease, including lung cancer and other asbestos-related diseases.
Dr. James Donahue remains active in research on behalf of his patients to provide them with the best lung cancer treatment advances in addition to the best care.

Dr. Donahue also serves as the James H. Estes Family Endowed Chair for Lung Cancer Research at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama.
