For the last 20 years, Dr. Joseph Treat has exclusively helped the patients who have mesothelioma. In fact, back in 1999, Fox Chase Cancer Center hired him to contribute to their team of knowledgeable experts. He couldn't have made a better match for the team. The patients benefited immensely from his efforts and treatment plans. He also incorporated and tailored a surgery to the adjuvant treatments for chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Because of this research, the physicians were able to combine their treatments for patients so that they could safely create a regimen for them. What happened as a result was a much higher survival rate in the mesothelioma patients.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Joseph Treat has led several clinical trials that support a customized treatment plan for patients with mesothelioma. Cumulative exposure to asbestos is the greatest risk factor for the development of asbestos-related disease Dr. Treat’s work in genetic research tries to determine if there is a genetic basis that influences who develops asbestos-related disease. He hopes this research will lead to better treatment for mesothelioma.
