Dr. Shirish Gadgeel

Shirish Gadgeel, M.D., completed the first part of his medical training in India. Afterward, he moved to the United States where he studied internal medicine at LaGuardia Hospital. At this point, Shirish had already spent three years studying medicine at the University of Bombay. However, he continued his studies of internal medicine to further his specialization for oncology and hematology, as well as bone marrow transplants.

Professional Experience

Dr. Shirish Gadgeel graduated with his medical degree from the University of Bombay in Mumbai, India. He then completed an internal medicine residency there.

Upon immigrating to the U.S., Dr. Gadgeel completed an internship at LaGuardia hospital and an internal medicine residency and a hematology and oncology fellowship at Wayne State University.

Whenever possible, Dr. Shirish Gadgeel tries to incorporate a combination of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy for each patient, but ultimately the treatment plan he chooses will depend upon what is best for the patient.

A Multidisciplinary Approach

Dr. Gadgeel is a leading medical oncologist. He remains one of the biggest experts in the fields of lung cancer and mesothelioma, a rare disease that occurs as a result of exposure to asbestos.

He works with a multidisciplinary team that meets every Thursday to discuss therapies for each patient. The specialists on the team have a variety of medical backgrounds, ensuring that each patient discussion and treatment plan formulated are robust. Whenever possible, Dr. Gadgeel tries to incorporate a combination of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy for each patient, but ultimately the treatment plan he chooses will depend upon what is best for the patient.

Board-Certified Physician

Dr. Gadgeel scored in the top 10th percentile on his board certification exam in medical oncology and hematology. His scholarly achievements extend beyond board certification. He has served as a reviewer for medical journals, including the Annals of Surgical Oncology, Clinical Lung Cancer, and Expert Review of Anticancer Therapy.

Dr. Shirish Gadgeel has also contributed to a number of mesothelioma research programs and he has gotten to work with the famous mesothelioma specialist, Dr. Harvey Pass.

Dr. Gadgeel also works as a member of the Human Investigation Committee. He has led several research projects in hopes that advancing the field of mesothelioma research will improve our understanding of this rare disease.
