Stanford Cancer Institute

In 2004, the Stanford Cancer Institute commenced its superb outpatient facility in conjunction with the Stanford Medicine’s Hospital and Clinics network system.

Designed with patient care as a prime priority, the institute has a plethora of world class resources ranging from traditional treatment methods to education and psychiatric care, all in one convenient location. Collaborative in nature, the medical team exhibits transparency and compassion to treat each patient with exceptional care. This provides each patient, particularly those with mesothelioma, with the confidence and attention necessary for their all encompassing treatment plans.

The Multidisciplinary Thoracic Tumor Board consists of a phenomenal team of surgeons and oncologists to quickly diagnose illnesses to create an in depth treatment plan for patients, the most advanced technology in the medical field. Utilizing CT scans, biopsies, and fine needle aspiration, the team first addresses the severity and quality of the disease before the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Tumor Board decides the most ideal approach to recovery given the patients priorities and health.

Doctors provide the patient with multiple options with their honest expertise to ensure a smooth transition from diagnosis to treatment.

Clinical trials are a constant with Stanford doctors, enabling the chance to receive treatments that potentially extend the length and quality of one’s life. Gene therapy and experimental drugs are a primary focus of research at Stanford, with the goal of extended patients’ life expectancy.

Outside of intensive treatment and research, Stanford Cancer Institute offers many general wellness opportunities to provide mental peace and overall wellness to patients. With the help of the Cancer Supportive Care Program, patients and their families receive, free of charge, numerous opportunities to empower their wellbeing, including Art in a Bag, or art projects to work on during chemotherapy and healing touch, a relaxation program. There are also support groups that meet regularly and music programs for entertainment and finding inner calamity.

Additionally, there are exercise programs that include yoga and pilates to minimize fatigue and support muscle strength, as well as nutritional services to assist in dietary needs associated with cancer treatment.
