Those that are unfortunately afflicted by chronic lung disease, particularly mesothelioma, are blessed with the advanced care offered at the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center.

This institution was made by the National Cancer Institute to enable tomorrow’s medical professionals with optimal training while simultaneously conducting an array of cancer treatment research.

The staff at the center are all leading faculty members at the Medical Center and the School of Medicine. This is one of the primary reasons for the center’s great reputation as a world leading cancer center. It’s high achievement in education, patient care and cancer prevention has led to the National Cancer Institute to recognize it as a Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Greenebaum Cancer Center’s stellar achievement attracts over 39,000 patients each year. The innovative outpatient center and outstanding medical technology used continue to bring peace of mind to those with chronic illness.

Fittingly, the research program is one of the United States’ most prestigious institutions in cancer, specifically lung cancer, research. With over 140 clinical trials underway, the program focuses on translational research and design and implementation among others.

The research completed here is supported with grant funding exceeding $59 million. The collective efforts of the program have led to advancements in gene therapy and the safe use of cancer destroying drugs.
