Dr. Harvey Pass, M.D., entered into 40 years of contributing in the battle against mesothelioma. Dr. Pass moved his base operations from Bethesda to Detroit to New York City. He emphasizes a focus of studying this disease that arises from asbestos, and he looks for answers that could help to resolve it. Along with the research of it, Dr. Pass also hopes to raise awareness of this illness, and he hopes that he can offer hope in an area where there used to be little hope.

Dr. Harvey Pass has served as Director for the Thoracic Surgery Division of New York University (NYU). He has also helped solidify NYU’s thoracic surgery fellowship program and its thoracic surgery research program. This research program is funded by the National Cancer Institute as an Early Detection Research Network Biomarker Discovery Laboratory.

Dr. Pass currently serves as a thoracic surgeon and Principal Investigator at NYU. His special areas of interest include the absestos-related cancers of lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Dr. Harvey Pass was one of the first investigators to study intraoperative photodynamic therapy for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Research

Dr. Pass was one of the first investigators to study intraoperative photodynamic therapy for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma. He has collaborated on mesothelioma and lung cancer studies with Dr. Renato Baserga and Dr. Michele Carbone. His current research focuses on the use of biomarkers to aid in the early detection, diagnosis, and prognosis of these asbestos-related malignancies.

Advocacy

Dr. Pass remains a diehard advocate for raising awareness of asbestos-related diseases and supporting individuals with these diseases. He works to warn his patients and the general public about the dangers of asbestos exposure. He continues to provide his patients with the latest advances in the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma and lung cancer.
