Dr. Gettinger joined up with the Yale Cancer Center, and he's a board-certified oncologist for the Smilow Cancer Hospital. This NCI-designated center works with the thoracic oncology program, which is where Dr. Gettinger treats patients with a variety of cancers. These cancers originate from the thoracic cavity, and they range from mediastinal tumors to chest wall tumors to thymomas to malignant mesothelioma, a disease that happens as a result of asbestos exposure.

He completed his internal medicine residency and his oncology fellowship at Beth Israel Medical Center.
